周明博士

创立澜舟科技#

周明博士于 2021 年 6 月创立了澜舟科技公司。该公司致力于开发最先进的下一代认知智能技术,包括自然语言和多模态信息的理解和生成、机器翻译、知识图谱、问答和推理、行业搜索、知识服务等技术。

周博士是世界顶级的 NLP 科学家,中国自然语言处理领域的代表性人物。曾任微软亚洲研究院副院长、国际计算语言学协会(ACL)主席。现任中国计算机学会副理事长、中国中文信息学会常务理事。曾任微软-清华联合实验室主任、微软-哈工大联合实验室主任。他还担任哈尔滨工业大学、天津大学、南开大学、北航、中国科技大学等高校的博士导师。他是中国计算机学会会士、中国人工智能学会会士。他也是首都劳动奖章获得者。

周明博士 1999-2020 年二十一年来长期领导微软亚洲研究院的 NLP 研究,在计算机创作、机器翻译、搜索、推荐、预训练模型等领域获得世界领先研究成果并广泛应用于微软的各类产品,包括 Windows、Office、必应搜索、Azure 云计算中。他领导了微软中日文输入法、必应词典、中英、中日机器翻译等系统的开发。研制的微软对联是世界上第一套人工智能对联系统,对话引擎、诗歌生成等是微软小冰聊天机器人的核心技术引擎在学术领域,周明博士在世界顶级的会议和期刊(如ACL、NeurIPS、AAAI、IJCAI、EMNLP、COLING、SIGKDD、 SIGIR、Computational Linguistics)发表 260 余篇论文,包括在 ACL 发表约 100 篇文章。他(2012-2020)八年来在机器学习和自然语言处理领域顶级学术会议发表文章数目排名世界第一名,谷歌学术搜索 H-Index 为 97 。他领导的课题组多次在国际 NLP 评测,譬如机器翻译、阅读理解、语法检查、语言理解和生成等,获得第一名。他拥有国际发明专利 50 余项。撰写《机器翻译》、《智能问答》两本专著。

周明 1985 年本科毕业于重庆大学、1991 年在哈尔滨工业大学获得博士学位,均为计算机专业。1991-1999 在清华大学博士后并任教。期间 1996-1999 年访问日本高电社公司主持机器翻译研究。1999-2020 年在微软亚洲研究院工作。在 1999 年加入微软研究院之前,他是中国最早的中英机器翻译系统 CEMT 和日本最有名的中日机器翻译产品 J-北京 的研制者。以 J-北京 为翻译引擎之一的机器翻译服务 J-Server 曾获得日本机器翻译协会最高奖-长尾真奖。

过去二十年来,他和所在微软亚洲研究院有关部门通过实习生计划、微软-高校联合培养博士计划、微软-高校联合实验室、培养了 600 名实习生、20 名博士和 20 名博士后。这些人士都成为国内外 NLP 的领军人物和技术骨干。他还积极筹划和大力支持 NLP 暑期学校和学术会议(譬如 NLPCC、语言与智能高峰论坛)、主导创建 ACL 亚洲分部、筹办 ACL2020。他对 NLP 在中国的发展做出了卓越贡献。

作为中国计算机学会副理事长,他积极推动先进的计算技术在各个行业和相关企业的应用。与有关人士一道推动成立了计算机学会计算艺术分会,推动成立了 CTO Club,并主持了旨在增进 CTO 交流的 C3 系列活动。

他领导的正在创新工场孵化的澜舟科技是一个崭新的 NLP 团队。目标是发展成为世界上最强的 NLP 技术团队并把研发的技术赋能企业,促进企业的数字化和智能化。开发的孟子轻量化模型技术获得中文 NLP 能力 CLUE 榜首。澜舟孟子认知服务平台获得 2021 年度北京国际 HICOOL 大赛一等奖暨人工智能和金融赛道第一名。

研究经历#

“孟子”认知计算平台(2021-),澜舟创始人

作为澜舟公司创始人,他领导的“孟子”认知计算平台,包括 ① 轻量级预训练模型“孟子”,打败了 CLUE 排行榜(中文 GLUE)巨头公司的庞大模型,具备机器阅读理解、推理、蕴涵、分类等 10 项 NLP 任务;② 新一代机器翻译、文本生成和搜索系统。他在 2021 年北京国际创新创业大赛 HICOOL 上获得一等奖,这是中国同类赛事中最负盛名的。澜舟机器翻译系统提供中文和 15 种语言之间的自动翻译,其中 11 种语言的性能优于谷歌机器翻译系统。澜舟文案生成系统生成连贯一致的文本,其质量优于 GPT 模型和其他模型。澜舟开发的营销文案生成引擎已经与数说故事合作提供 SaaS 产品服务。澜舟市场情报搜索与研究系统融合了信息检索、信息提取、机器阅读、摘要、情绪分析等先进技术。这些技术全部基于“孟子”预训练模型。提供了高质量的搜索和强大的研究能力,可有效地提高市场分析的效率。

预训练模型技术(2018-2020),微软亚洲研究院自然语言计算组(MSRA-NLC)主任

他领导 MSRA-NLC 开发先进的语言、多语言和跨模态预训练模型技术,并使用这些模型开发新一代的语言理解、文本生成、机器翻译、图像理解、图像生成、文档理解、ASR 和 TTS。大大提升了 NLP 各项任务的能力。其中,UniLM 将语言理解和生成整合到一个预训练模型中,在研究界极具影响力,并获得了 2018 年中国互联网领先技术奖。

微软小冰聊天引擎(2015-2019),微软亚洲研究院自然语言计算组(MSRA-NLC)主任

带领 MSRA-NLC 开发了聊天引擎,以支持在中国、日本和美国发布的小冰聊天机器人产品。该聊天引擎采用基于检索和基于生成的混合模型,以 21.6 轮自然对话达到当时聊天机器人的最高水平。除了聊天引擎,他的团队还为小冰开发了诗歌生成和新闻推荐等关键技术。

微软手语翻译(2012-2013),微软亚洲研究院自然语言计算组(MSRA-NLC)主任

提出利用微软 Kinect 实现手语的翻译,并建立与中科院计算所陈熙霖教授课题组合作,完成了一个基于 Kinect 的手语翻译和中-英翻译等能力的中文、英语和手语的互译系统。在 2012 年西雅图的微软全体员工大会上,由当时微软 CEO 鲍尔默(操英语)与北京联合大学的聋哑学生(操手语)进行对话,通过该系统实现英文和手语的自动翻译,引起了会场的轰动。后来该项目获得了新任 CEO 萨提亚·纳德拉颁发的微软“Ability Award”。

英库词典(必应词典)(2010-2012),微软亚洲研究院自然语言计算组(MSRA-NLC)主任

他带领 MSRA-NLC 开发了英库英语学习搜索引擎,该搜索引擎具有海量双语例句检索、机器翻译、拼写检查和图片检索和语音朗读等功能。英库荣获华尔街日报亚洲创新奖,并于 2012 年成为微软必应词典产品。它是微软在中国发布的最受欢迎的产品之一。

机器翻译研发 (2000-2020),微软亚洲研究院自然语言计算组(MSRA-NLC)主任

他带领 MSRA-NLC 先后开发中英文及其他语言之间的基于实例的机器翻译、统计机器翻译系统和神经机器翻译系统。同时也开发了交互式翻译和旅游用口袋翻译。它是 MS Translator 产品的一个组成部分,服务全球成千上万的客户。其中中英互译系统在新闻翻译中达到了与人类译员相当的水准。

微软对联(2005-2007),微软亚洲研究院自然语言计算组(MSRA-NLC)主任

他设计了巧妙的电脑自动对联系统。利用统计机器翻译原理,给定上联,电脑自动生成下联并且给出横批。微软对联系统在微软亚洲研究院 21 世纪的计算大会上连续三年登台演示,每次对对联的水平,都有新的提升。多次在中央电视台报道。微软对联代表了微软亚洲研究院在利用大数据进行人工智能方面的最有代表性的探讨。后来又发展了电脑写格律诗、电脑猜谜语等创新技术,形成了微软在文学创作领域的创新体系。

微软输入法、英语写作助理、跨语言检索(1999-2004),先后担任微软亚洲研究院自然语言计算组(MSRA-NLC)研究员和主任

他领导的 IME,英语写作助理和跨语言信息检索项目已经转移到 MS 产品(Windows 和 Office)。跨语言信息检索在 TREC-9 CLIR 和 NTCIR-III CLIR 中均获得第一名。

中日机器翻译产品, 日本高电社中文翻译研究室主任 (1996-1999)

他在日本高电社领导了一个团队开发了中日机器翻译产品 J-北京。自从 1998 年发布以来在日本市场上一直名列前茅。J-北京 后来成为 J-Server 翻译网络的翻译引擎之一。 J-Server 在日本获得了日本翻译协会的最高荣誉“长尾真奖”。

他开发的 CEMT 系统是中国第一个汉英机器翻译系统。他开发了一个基于规则的翻译系统,设计了数以千计的规则,实现中文分析、中-英转换和英文生成。
